Embark on a Memorable London Theatre Break

Tuesday, 31 August 2010

A trip to London will always be a special occasion, but you can help make it that bit more memorable by going to see one of many incredible London shows. The British capital has long been regarded as the home of world theatre and it isn't hard to see why. There are dozens of top-class shows performed in a number of stunning venues every night, resulting in thousands of theatre-goers going home happy and counting down the days till their next theatre trip.

The great thing about London's West End shows is that there is a fantastic mix of productions that are renowned across the world and have been performed for years, and new and exciting performances that compliment the classics. Musicals such as Grease, Les Miserables and The Wizard of Oz have been watched by many people, and although these performances continue to grow and develop, it's always nice to see new shows making their mark in the West end.

Due the current popularity of the theatre and stage shows in Britain, there are new performances being devised and written all the time. Well known composers such as Andrew Lloyd Webber are writing new scripts, Love Never Dies, the sequel to the Phantom of the Opera in his case, while theatre novices are also trying their hand at writing plays and musicals that they hope will go down a storm.

One new musical about to open that is trying to draw in younger audiences is the musical comedy Departure Lounge. Featuring actors that teenage TV audiences will be well aware of such as Hollyoaks star Chris Fountain and Emmerdale actress Verity Rushworth, this performance is an example of how musicals are now being targeted at a much wider audience than previously.

Douglas Irvine's comedy has already enjoyed sell-out crowds at the Edinburgh Festival and this year it will be shown to a London audience for the first time at the Waterloo East Theatre at the end of September. The theatre's location means that it's ideal for those travelling to London by train, and if that's you then you can enjoy great value train travel as part of your theatre package.

In addition to theatre tickets and rail travel, you can also book hotel accommodation as part of your London theatre break. You can take care of this all online as well, so all you have to worry about on the day of your trip is having a good time. This is something you're bound to do as you watch a great performance in the home of world theatre.
