SCHOOLS GET BUILDING ‘OK’

Wednesday, 7 July 2010

THE Department of Education on Monday "approved" new builds for a number of schools in Mid-Ulster.
However Education Minister Caitriona Ruane says the future for new school buildings is "bleak" unless funding becomes available.
A total of 34 out of 67 schools from across the Province have been told they comply with the policy. They include Edendork Primary School, St Patrick's Academy in Dungannon, Omagh Integrated Primary School and St Conor's Primary School also in the Omagh area.
Assembly members have previously criticised the Minister for not showing them the full criteria for deciding which schools had been approved for funding.
Some schools have been listed as "partially complaint". They have been told to do some extra work with the possibility of being approved. They include: Holy Trinity College in Cookstown, Dean Maguirc College and St Columbkille's PS in Carrickmore and Portadown College.
Schools not approved include St Patrick's Grammar in Armagh and Loreto College in Omagh.
