Wednesday, 21 July 2010

FAMOUS £1 store, Poundland is set to open an outlet in Dungannon creating 35 new jobs for the town, it has been revealed.
As part of a major expansion across Northern Ireland, the new store will be located at the former Woolworths site on the town's Scotch Street which closed in December 2008. The retailer will be bringing a total of 140 new jobs across the Province.
New stores are going to be opening in Newry, Enniskillen, Bangor and Dungannon. Meanwhile there are also vacancies at newly opened stores in Londonderry and Ballymena.
Poundland, which opened its first Irish store in Belfast in October 2009, currently has 14 stores across Northern Ireland. The company's rapid expansion plan for the region will result in a total of 20 stores by the end of this year.
Tim McDonnell, retail operations director at Poundland told the Courier: "Poundland has been a huge success in Northern Ireland, In fact, it is forecast to be our most successful region in the UK. Poundland is the first single price retailer in Northern Ireland and the customers seem to love the concept, the brand, the service and the value for money.
“We really are going from strength to strength in this region and are looking to recruit people with the right skills to help us with our expansion."
The Poundland vacancies range from store managers and assistant store managers to general assistants and warehouse operatives. The stores are open seven days a week and the opportunities are for full and part time workers.
Mr McDonnell concludes: "We are looking for people who can cope in a fast-paced environment, whether they are experienced in retail or not. We offer excellent training opportunities for the right candidates.
“Managers for the new stores, for example, will spend four to six weeks training in one of our existing Northern Ireland stores. They will then get ongoing support from head office.
“As we are growing at such a pace, there are a huge amount of opportunities for career progression at Poundland. We expect our employees to work hard and deliver a high level of service. In return, we offer a wide range of rewards and benefits for our employees and help them to develop to their full potential."
Poundland is currently looking to fill the store management roles in Dungannon, Enniskillen, Bangor, Ballymena and Londonderry, with senior vacancies in Newry to be filled by September. Managers and assistant store managers should visit www.poundlandcareers.co.uk for further details.
Anyone wishing to join Poundland as a store colleague should look out for details at their local job centre.
