TOWN CENTRE RETAIL BOOST thumbnailThe new Orritor Road retail and penthouse proposal on the former RA Patrick’s old site. SC2804

COOKSTOWN is in line for a massive boost with no less than TWO major retail and residential developments planned for the town centre.
One will see the site of the former Tesco supermarket off the Orritor Road transformed into a mixed development to include shops and new homes.
Another, just yards away on the Orritor Road, is set to bring "penthouse living" to Cookstown, with a development of luxury apartments that will also comprise shopping and office space.
Plans for both schemes were recommended for approval at the monthly meeting of Cookstown District Council by a representative of the Department of Environment.
Cookstown-based Rea Developments are behind both projects, which will bring much-needed employment to the town.
It is proposed that the development at the old Tesco store would include nine retail units comprising a gross floorspace 2562 square metres.
There are further plans for 38 apartments at the site as well as underground parking.
The former Tesco shop and two residential units would be demolished to make way for the development.
The second project at Orritor Road will replace the existing sales buildings at 21-23 Orritor Road, which was the former old site of RA Patricks.
In its place will be a development of exclusive apartments including 12 "penthouses".
It is proposed that the building would also include a further 30 apartments in addition to retail and office space.
And it will be complimented by associated basement and forecourt car parking facilities as well as regulated service areas.
The luxury complex would be completed with a fitness suite and health club.
The proposed developments will compliment the Broadfields retail Park in the area, which were exclusively revealed in the Courier in 2008.
A new supermarket is also planned for the Westland Road South area of Cookstown.
The Henderson Spar group will open the new store on a vacant side opposite the town's cemetery.
The Courier first mooted the idea of a retail facility by Rea Developments at Westland Road South and the store will include space for 28 free car parking spaces.
