Primary School Principal retires
Wednesday, 18 January 2012
MR Ian Moore has retired from Windmill Integrated Primary School after 21 years of dedicated service, six as a teacher and 15 as Principal.
In his years as Principal, Mr Moore worked closely with a number of outside agencies. These included Knox and Clayton, architects with whom he liaised on a regular basis in the design and build of the new school. He also initiated the laying of the synthetic pitch at the front of the school with Clive Richardson Ltd. This is for the use of the school each weekday and for use by the community on evenings and weekends.
The orienteering courses in Windmill Woods and Dungannon Park were also his initiatives.
He was instrumental in organising the regular meetings of a number of local Primary School Principals to share their thoughts and ideas about new educational policies and directives.
However, as well as the new building, his other great achievement was the success, in partnership with Dungannon United Youth, in applying to the Big Lottery for the funding of the Lough View Sports Centre. In practice this has meant that Windmill School has the use of Lough View to extend its PE curriculum, local primary schools have the use of it for their sports programmes and the community have the use of it after 4.30pm and weekends. In recognition of the close bond that has developed between Mr Moore and Dungannon United Youth and to mark the occasion of his retirement, he was presented by Joe McAree (Chairman of Dungannon United Youth) with a clock in a specially carved wooden frame. Commenting, Mr Moore said: "It's a beautiful gift and it will always remind me of a place overlooking the Black Lough which I helped to create which will continue to bring pleasure to generations of young people for many years to come."
