Fivemiletown farmer pops the question on four-legged friend thumbnailAshley Farrell and Anna Louise Martin shared the good news on social media.

A FIVEMILETOWN farmer's proposal has gone viral after he enlisted the help of a four-legged friend to pop the question.

Ashley Farrell, who is "not usually the romantic type", spray painted "Marry me?" on the side of a calf when he proposed to Anna Louise Martin on Christmas Eve.

Later that day Anna, from Hillsborough, announced the good news on social media, where it has been viewed 1,000 times and the couple have been inundated with congratulations ever since.

Anna believed she was getting cattle for Christmas as she was led to a shed and revealed she didn't originally believe that the idea was "udderly original".

"I went outside and saw a small calf - a velvet Belted Galloway cross - but thought something was up because if he had the calf from November then it should be bigger than that," she said.

"Then, before I could open my mouth, it turned around and the words 'Marry me' were painted on the side of it.

"I turned around and Ashley was on one knee with the ring in his hand and I, of course, said yes.

"He is not usually the romantic type, but he thought of his one himself. I should have given him more credit, but he is your typical farmer so I was really surprised that it was his idea," Anna added.
