Royal School lads push past Portadown College thumbnailWinger, Dylan Burton on a break.

RSD are through to the semi-final of the Schools Bowl after a convincing display against Portadown College.

The Dungannon lads struck early when winger, Nicholas Graham touched down in the corner after good work by the pack.

Ports bounced back and with out-half Matthew Neill spreading the ball wide RSD had to focus on defence.

Dungannon's next foray saw Ports caught offside and Adam Evans made no mistake from the tee on 25 minutes.

RSD then pressed hard to extend the eight point lead with the two Aarons, Perry and McCammon going close before Calvin Nelson took the ball forward. However, it all ended with James Gamble 'held up' over the line and the half ended 8-0.

RSD started the second half on top and within two minutes Joseph Cashel crashed over for Evans to convert.

After the restart Dylan Burton made a lightning dash into Portadown territory. Undeterred the visitors ran the ball back but suffered a setback when McCammon intercepted and ran 60 metres to the posts. Evans popped over the conversion to send RSD 22 points clear.

All credit to the gallant Ports they did manage to break their duck when Alan McMaster crossed the whitewash midway through the half.

One minute later Evans fired over a penalty for RSD before Ports added their second try per Dylan Nelson. With Neill adding the two conversions the score stood at 25-14.

Cashel then eased the home nerves when he charged over to complete his brace with Adams adding the extras.

Last say went to Portadown when Drew Flack crossed the line to leave the final score at 32-19. RSD now travel to play Regent House on February. All in all, it was a good day at the office for Gareth McClintock's young charges.
