AN Ardboe man killed in a road collision has been laid to rest.

The funeral of Stephen Wilkinson was held on Thursday last.

Mr Wilkinson, who was from Mullanahoe Road near Ardboe, is understood to have been walking when he was struck by a Ford Focus at Chapel Street, Cookstown at around 3.30am on 1st October.

His funeral Mass was conducted at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament at Mullinahoe.

Speaking afterwards: Fr McCartan, said Mr Wilkinson's relatives had shown "remarkable" strength as they mourn the loss of their son.

He also paid tribute to Mr Wilkinson.

"He was a very easy going and laidback person," the priest said.

"He was very generous and considerate.

"His family acted remarkably over the last few days.

"They were particularly calm and moderate during the service." The 26-year-old driver of the vehicle was arrested and questioned by the PSNI and later released on bail pending further inquiries.

Mr Wilkinson is survived by his mother Sharon, father Christopher, brother Ryan, sister-in-law Shannon, girlfriend Bronagh and godson Noah, to whom sincere sympathy is extended.

Mr Wilkinson was one of three people to die the same weekend following accidents on Northern Ireland's roads.
