POLICE in Dungannon have launched a campaign to clean up the Railway Park and Windmill Wood areas of the town.

The move follows numerous Courier stories of concerns about anti-social behaviour in Windmill Wood and Railway Park (nicknamed 'drug alley' by locals).

Police told this newspaper they have received a number of calls about ongoing anti-social behaviour, including underage drinking and possible drug use, in the Railway Park and Windmill Wood areas of Dungannon.

In response, Dungannon Local Policing Team (LPT) carried out a proactive operation earlier this month with the help of colleagues from the Tactical Support Team (TSG) and two passive scanning drugs dogs.

Inspector Joanne Gibson told the Courier: "As a result of the operation TSG seized a number of fireworks and one person was reported to take part in the fireworks awareness course which being is organised and hosted by the Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT).

"Anti-social behaviour is totally unacceptable and those that involve themselves in this type of behaviour needlessly cause annoyance and fear to members of the community who are simply trying to get on with their lives.

Those responsible also run the risk of arrest and a criminal record which could have an untold impact on them for the rest of their lives. We regularly ask parents to be aware of what dangers their children are potentially at risk from if they become involved in anti-social activity, and to play their part in keeping their families and the wider community safe.

"We are continuing to work with the partner agencies in our ongoing efforts to counter this anti-social behaviour."
