Dungannon Cricket Club folds

Wednesday, 15 November 2017

DUNGANNON Cricket Club has notified the National Cricket Union of its intention to fold.

The club finished bottom of the NCU Section Three last term, losing all of its 12 league matches last season.

In May the club, which dates back as far as 1865, issued an urgent appeal for players, after losing 20 of its squad in the last three years.

"The lack of support from schools in the area and from former players is most disappointing, and the few of us who are working to keep the club alive cannot go on for much longer without help on the playing and admin side," said 77-year-old Willie Adrian in May.

The situation came to a head in last season in a match against Newforge when the club only had six players available to travel for the game forcing the tie to be scratched.
