THERE was an amazing spirit of generosity in Cookstown at the launch of the Mid-Ulster Food Bank Appeal.

The event, supported by the council, resulted in many donations that will help those less fortunate in the area in the run-up to Christmas.

A number of local charities and organisations - including SVP, Antioch Food Bank, the Vineyard Church, Dungannon and the Lighthouse Magherafelt organised the food bank appeal, launched in the Burnavon on Thursday, 7th December.

Chair of Mid-Ulster District Council, Kim Ashton was in attendance at the event and expressed her thanks to the community and Council employees who donated, saying: "It's vital that as many people as possible support the appeal and donate, and while it's important to do so throughout the year, December is an especially difficult time for many in need.

"Recent statistics show that one in five people are now living below the poverty line in the UK. I would encourage everyone to help make a difference to the lives of children, families, older people and some of the most vulnerable people in the community by simply donating an item from your weekly shop."

Anyone who would like to support the appeal can leave donations to the Vineyard Church, Dungannon (based at the Storehouse Car Park) on a drop in basis on Tuesdays from 7pm - 8.30pm or on Thursdays from 10.30am - 1pm.
