Pensionerís 16 hr wait in the snow.

Wednesday, 24 January 2018

AN ARDBOE pensioner suffered a traumatic start to 2018 after spending over 16 hours stranded in a field when the car she was driving careered off the road in icy conditions outside Stewartstown.

The lady, who is understood to be in her early eighties, crashed off the road near the Curglassan Crossroads, about a mile outside Stewartstown.

She had been heading in the direction of the village when she came off the road and down a significant height into a field at around 6pm.

And she remained unseen by any passers-by or residents in the area until the following morning at about 10.30am.

The lady escaped without serious injury but was left shaken by her more than 16 hour ordeal in her motionless car in the freezing conditions.

The stretch of road between Stewartstown and Coagh has long been the subject of calls for road safety initiatives, with several tight bends at the Curglassan Crossroads following lengthy straights on the approach from both directions.
