THE Fire and Rescue Service responded to a drama yesterday morning, Monday, when they rescued a couple from their vehicle which drove into a heavily flooded road near Loughgall.

The man and woman, both in their 40s, were driving on the Tirmacrannon Road when they encountered severe flooding following days of heavy rainfall.

The emergency services were contacted and two fire appliances from Dungannon and two from Armagh went to the scene where they rescued the couple from their partially submerged vehicle and brought them to safety.

According to the Fire Service the man had to be carried from the vehicle, but the woman was led to safety.

Neither required hospital treatment.

A spokesperson for the Fire Service said the drama unfolded when they received a call for help at 6.43am on Monday morning.
