‘BAY WATCH’ Heaven in Cookstown thumbnailCookstown main street’s new “herring bone” parking bays, pictured here, have left Traffic Wardens powerless.

MOTORISTS are enjoying a honeymoon period of all day parking in Cookstown's main street with Traffic Wardens unable to issue any tickets!

And they have the non-functioning Northern Ireland Assembly to thank!

A multi-million pound town centre Public Realm Scheme was completed and handed over to the Council last year.

As part of the scheme, new "herring bone" parking bays were painted along both sides of Cookstown's main street to replace the "box style" bays.

However, the new style parking bays require new legislation which has to be signed off by the Northern Ireland Assembly ...and with the Assembly non functioning since January of last year, no legislative decisions can be taken.
