PRIMARY 7 pupils from St Patrick's Primary School, Donaghmore have won the trip of a lifetime to Majorca with Jet2 Holidays.

Principal of the school, Mrs Dera Cahalane, spoke to the Tyrone Courier of her delight after finding out they had won the competition; "When we got the phonecall, they told us we won by a country mile.

"Not only was the whole community behind us, we had support from people all over the world casting their votes. It is a real boost to get such a large level of support as a samller school.

"Some of the children haven't travelled before so it's going to be such an experience for them, they are all really excited and are counting down the sleeps."

Mrs Cahalane explained the use of social media as a help in aquiring votes; "Typically we don't use social media, but we embraced it to extend our reach in order to attract more votes.

"Not only that but we seen it as an opportunity to teach the children about the power of social media and how things can spread, as a video we put up had thousands of views in just one day."

Five members of staff in addition to the 27 children going on the trip all have an itenerary set out for them including going to the Katmandu Park and meeting a number of well known personalities including Dick and Dom.

Primary 7 teacher at the school, Roisin Ferguson, explained how they decided to enter the competition; "Every year I am on lookout for something to get the kids involved in, that's how I came across the competition this year.

After getting the green light from the principal we decided to get involved. Initially we were required to send in a promotianal piece for the theme park, so we created a short promotional movie with the help of Jim McKeown, which led to us getting shortlisted to the voting stage.

We had such great support from other local schools, local businesses, relatives, everyone got involved.

"I'm so proud of them and so excited for the trip, we are all really looking forward to it.

"We were all absolutely delighted to even be shortlisted, so to win is amazing and everyone is really excited.

"It will be such a good opportunity they will always remember."

The trip is taking place on 19th April - 22nd April, with 27 classmembers and 5 teachers going on the trip.
