IT'S sure to be an exciting week for Mid-Ulster's Commonwealth stars with medals on offer for three of the four athletes.

Cookstown's Ian Sloan, is due to got underway overnight when England's mens hockey team face Wales.

Meanwhile Magherafelt's Adam McMullen will compete in the qualifying round of the long jump today (Tuesday).

Clogher Table tennis star, Ashley Robinson has also tasted defate in the Gold Coast. He lost his first game for team Northern Ireland against India's Sathiyan Gnanasakaran as his team fell to a 3-0 defeat.

Northern Ireland's second game of the competition was against Trinidad and Tobago. Despite Northern Ireland's 3-1 victory Ashley lost his match against Dexter St Louis 32-39.

With this victory the Northern Ireland team had done enough to advance to the round of 16 where they faced Mauritius.

Northern Ireland won 3-1 with Ashley beating his opponent 3-1.

In the quarter final the Northern ireland team came up against England and lost 3-0. Ashley's game was a doubles conest. He was partnered with Paul McCreery and faced Samuel Walter and Paul Drinkhall where they fell to a 21-33 defeat.

Ashley is also competing in the single's tournament today (Tuesday) and was due to face Uganda's Ronald Nyaika.

Meanwhile for Dungannon swimmer Calum Bain's games are already over after he failed to qualify for the 50m butterfly final after he swam in a time of 24.43.
