Wednesday, 9 May 2018

JOHNSTON'S were crowned winners of the Clogher Valley Darts League Knockout Cup after seeing off Tiffy's in the final.
The Ballygawley men had actually struck the first blow in the decider after Gerry Monaghan and Chris Hughes (120, 100, 83, 60 checkout) toppled Mark Smyton and Ivor McCombs (100, 93, 83x3, 81) in straight legs, 2-0.
Mark Somerville and Gareth McKeown (140, 125x2, 85x2, 81, 68 checkout) levelled up for Johnston's courtesy of a 2-0 success against Colm and Connie Colhoun (100x2, 95).
A big scoring Gerry Monaghan (140, 100x2, 95, 91, 89) restored Tiffy's lead, accounting for Ivor McCombs (100, 85, 82) on a 3-0 scoreline.
However, that was as good as it got for Tiffy's, with Johnston's roaring back.
Gavin Dallas (121, 137, 97, 81) brought Johnston's back level when he saw off the challenge of Chris Hughes (140, 100x4, 95) 3-1 in a fine contest.
Mark Somerville (140, 137, 105, 100x2, 97, 64 checkout) nudged Johnston's into the lead for the first time, beating Colm Colhoun (134, 100x2, 85) on a 3-0 scoreline.
And Johnston's sealed the title when Mark Smyton (125x2, 100, 86, 81) toppled Connie Colhoun (125, 90, 85) 3-0 to seal victory but Tiffy's had their chances on the night in a superb final.
