A BOMB has been defused in Moygashel.

Police have confirmed that a 'viable device' was found in the village on Thursday past.

Officers attended the scene in the immediate vicinity of Moygashel Park on Thursday morning after reports of a suspicious object began to spread.

Ammunition Technical Officers examined the device and declared it to be a "crude but viable device".

It is understood residents from of both Moygashel Park and Prince Andrew Crescent were evacuated from their homes during the search.

Speaking after the area was secured and residents allowed to return to their homes, Fermanagh and South Tyrone Ulster Unionist Party MLA Rosemary Barton, urged anyone with information to make themselves known to Police.

"I want to thank the PSNI for taking the necessary steps in ensuring the nearby residents were safe," he said.

"I'd also like to thank the Ammunition Technical Officers for removing the crude, but viable device from the area.

"This could have been a much worse situation and I am thankful nobody was injured."

Added Mrs Barton: "I would urge anybody who can assist the PSNI to contact them via 101, quoting reference 346 11/05/18 or through Crimestoppers which is anonymous on 0800 555 111."

Detective Inspector Mulholland told the Courier: "At approximately 10.15 am police received a report that a suspicious object had been left in the area.

"The object was examined by ATO who have declared it to be a crude but viable device that has now been made safe and taken away for further examination."
