Wednesday, 6 June 2018

POLICE in Mid-Ulster have seized a significant quantity of Class A drugs, following the recent death of a 34-year-old man in Moneymore.
The proactive operation across Cookstown, Moneymore and Magherafelt was the consequence of the tragic and worrying circumstances that occured in Northland Road on Sunday 27th May, which shocked the local community.
PSNI Cookstown spokesperson said: "Drugs and Drug paraphernalia have been recovered with one male arrested.
“We will continue to go after the drugs and dealers in Mid-Ulster, these people care nothing about destroying the lives of others, kids included, but we also need your assistance."
Discussing the operation, Detective Sergeant Robinson added: "The drugs, which we believe to be cocaine, were recovered during searches at addresses in the Mid-Ulster area earlier this week. They have now been sent for forensic testing.
Suspected drug use also lead to the hospitastion of several others on that fateful night, and at the time of writing, a 26-year-old male remains in a serious condition at hospital.
Sergeant Robinson continued: "As this past weekend has shown, drug use can have fatal consequences and leave families and communities devastated.
“We are glad to have been able to remove this harmful substance from the streets of Mid-Ulster and to prevent any further harm being caused.
“I would reiterate our previous warning to anyone considering taking any kind of drug - do not do it. Do not take chances with your health, or your life.
“Anyone with information that could assist us in tackling the sale and supply of drugs of any kind in the local area can contact police on 101, or information can be given anonymously to the Crimestoppers charity," he concluded.
