MONEYMORE could be set for a new dementia and residential care home after a planning application was submitted to Mid-Ulster Council's Planning Commitee.
The unit, which would be a conversion and extension of an existing bungalow at 7 Cookstown Road in the village, would cater for 12 dementia patients and offer five spaces in their residential home.
The plan is for the private development to also include associated support services and staff accommodation along with car parking for both staff and visitors.
A decision will made at the meeting of the Planning Committee tonight, Tuesday 3rd July.
The agent for the works is Omagh-based Hyll-Syde Design Services, on behalf of applicant Hayley Jordan.
News of a potential new nursing and residential care home in the region will be welcomed by many, and will boost the care provision facilities available in the district.
Roxborough House in Moy and Westlands Residential Home in Cookstown had both previously been under threat of closure, butGovernment moves saw both services retained.
Roxborough even added to their facilities, after setting up a new short breaks service in January which has been a great success and a welcome addition.
A Southern Health and Social Care Trust spokesperson said: "We know that local people greatly value the high quality care provided by our staff at Roxborough House and can reassure them that there are currently no planned changes to these services."
A spokesperson for the Northern Trust commented, in relation to Westlands Residential Home said: "The Trust can confirm that... we remain fully committed to Westlands and there are no plans to change services."
It is understood any decision over the future of public residential care homes can only be made with an active Stormont government in place.
