IT was a week to remember for fans of Dungannon Swifts old and young alike as the U13s showed their class at the SuperCup NI Tournament.
The young Swifts started slowly, suffering 2-0 defeats to both Coleraine and Portadown respectively.
However, the young guns soon turned the corner and rallied to beat West Ham United 3-1 last Wednesday with goals from Elijah Weathered, Kenny Ximenes and Jack Jazstal.
With this set of results the youngsters entered the Globe competition, the competition for the remaining two second placed teams plus the two best third placed teams.
In the semi-final they came up against St Johnstone FC. They overcame their Scottish opponents 3-2 thanks to goals from Kenny Ximenes, Dara McCloskey and Corey Smith.
A final followed against a team they had already beaten, West Ham United.
Nerves appeared to get the better of the young Swifts in the first half as they entered the interval 1-0 down.
However, they showed great determination to battle back and ran out 3-1 winners thanks to a Kenny Ximenes hat-trick.
Each player and member of the coaching staff was presented with a medal for their involvement.
Speaking after the tournament, a spokesperson for the Swifts explained that the club were proud of the team's achievements.
“As a club we are absolutely delighted with the performance of our Dungannon Swifts Under 13 Squad," said the spokesperson.
“Thanks to great work from our coaches, Mel Somerville, Rodney McAree and Dixie Robinson as well as tremendous effort from the players, it has been a very successful week for us.
“Not only did the squad have great fun throughout the week, but they also represented the club with great honour and pride."
