Clarke selected for Ryder Cup team

Wednesday, 21 July 2010

DUNGANNON'S Darren Clarke has been named as one of three vice captains for the European Ryder Cup team to face the United States.
Irishman Paul McGinley and Denmark's Thomas Bjorn will join him as vice-captains at Celtic Manor.
European captain Montgomerie announced his backroom team yesterday (Tuesday) for the event in Wales from 1-3 October.
Montgomerie believes his new team will give Europe the best possible opportunity to reclaim the Ryder Cup after defeat by the US in Valhalla in 2008.
Lough Erne Challenge
Meanwhile following a disappointing finish at St Andrew's, Darren Clarke will join fellow world renowned golfers Rory McIlroy and Padraig Harrington, to name but a few, today (Wednesday) at the Lough Erne Challenge.
The 2010 Lough Erne Challenge presented by Lakelands & Inland Waterways is taking place at The Faldo Course at Enniskillen's Lough Erne Resort.
Rory McIlroy, and Clarke, will take on a Republic of Ireland team represented by three times Major champion Padraig Harrington and the reigning Irish Open champion Shane Lowry.
At last year's inaugural Lough Erne Challenge, Rory McIlroy, shooting a course record 68 (four under par), defeated Padraig Harrington, who shot a round of 70 (two under par).
