Darren Clarke celebrates winning the 2011 Open Championship at Royal St George’s, Sandwich
DUNGANNON'S Darren Clarke has entered 2012 on another high and with another award - this time an OBE in the New Year honours!
Clarke got the award for his services to golf.
It caps a tremendous 2011 for the County Tyrone golfer which all started back in July when he became British Open Champion at Sandwich at the age of 42.
“I could not have envisaged the year I have had," said Darren. "Winning the Open was obviously a dream come true and it was at the 20th attempt."
Commenting on the award Clarke said: "It is a fantastic way to end a great year.
I am very proud for me and my family.
“It is a privilege to be recognised with an OBE. It is a lot to take in."
