Launching the Northern Ireland Decaman/Iron Distance Challenge
ESKRAGH Lough in Dungannon is to be the setting for Ireland's toughest triathlon, the Northern Ireland Decaman/Iron Distance Challenge, which is scheduled to take place from the 6-15th July.
The Ulster Cancer Foundation (UCF) has joined with Tri Limits and Chain Reaction Cycles to organise the event which involves an adrenalin pumping 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile cycle followed by a marathon (26.2 miles) - each day for 10 days!
UCF is urging men and women to sign up for this special fitness challenge.
The event is a personal challenge for each participant and will help raise money for the charity's men's health campaign.
UCF Community Fundraising Officer Paul O'Gara said: "There is a challenge for everyone whatever your ability so why not give it a go! Challenge your limits for UCF."
Participants can choose one of the following options:
Decaman: Enter the 10 day Northern Ireland Decaman;
Decaman Relay Team: A relay team of 3 people in the Northern Ireland Decaman;
Iron Distance Challenge: Join in, on a day of your choice;
Iron Distance Challenge Relay Team: Join in, on a day of your choice, with a relay team of 3 people;
Run/Swim/Bike: Register to run, swim or bike some of the Iron Distance on a day of your choice.
A £20 deposit plus minimum sponsorship is required, for details and online registration click on http://events.ulstercancer.org/ps/event/NIDECAMAN1
"UCF's men's health campaign aims to minimise the impact of cancer among men," continued Paul. "The charity brings fitness and health programmes such as smoking cessation clinics and Male Quick Fit checks into workplaces, and has a full range of counselling and support services for men and their families, a confidential helpline, and art and creative writing therapy.
“We would urge everyone to help us raise as much money as possible to continue funding these free services either by taking part in NI Decaman/Iron Distance Challenge or by supporting participants."
