Cookstown Club in members call for 90th Anniversary celebration

Wednesday, 1 February 2012

IT'S just over a week now until the Cookstown & Districts MCC 90th Birthday!.
Formed 11th February, 1922, the present day club is marking the Anniversary by holding a meeting on the same date, Saturday 11th February in the Royal Hotel, starting at 8.30pm sharp.
All past and present members are asked to attend this unique night. It is hoped to have the oldest cup from 1924 on display along with old minute books and programmes etc from years gone by, photos etc. If anyone has any memorablia that may be of interest, feel free to contact anyone in the club, or contact me at
baylon@btinternet.com and I will duly pass on the information to the club.
A new 250 two stroke championship will soon be announced for 2012. It will run at all ISB rounds and have a prize fund of £5,000.
This will no doubt boost the 250 class on the short circuit scene, and with local lad, Richard Glasgow the regining champion, I am sure he along with many others will be glad to see this extra prize fund.
Ryan Farquhar was at the Famous Philip Island last weekend, where he and his team mate Jeremy McWilliams were in action at the big classic event there.
They certainly didn't dissappoint, with Ryan outqualifying McWilliams in practice. However in race one, Farquhar was 7th and McWilliams 5th when the race was stopped after Josh Brookes took a high speed spill, but was OK.
In race two Ryan was 5th. The third race saw McWilliams take 3rd with Ryan in 5th whilst in the last race McWilliams was the winner with Ryan in 4th spot.

The current British Superbike champion Tommy Hill is gearing-up for a guest appearance at the annual Motorcycle Festival which begins a three-day run at the King's Hall, Belfast on February 10.
Hill who will celebrates his 27th birthday the day before the show opens, was involved in a cliff-hanging finish to the 2011 title race decider.
“I did it by half-a-wheel," reflected Hill. "In fact the official difference between myself and John Hopkins was just 0.006 of a second."
Make a note of the Festival dates: Friday February 10, Saturday February 11 and Sunday February 12-just the ideal build-up to St Valentine's Day!
