The Second Starplan Grand Prix of the season was held in Tullanisken Parish Hall Newmills last week. This Tournament was kindly Sponsored by Sammy Wright.
On Saturday night the juniors were playing at under 12, under 14, and under 17 level.
Caron Jones won the under 12 Girls event, beating Rebecca Wilson 11-5, 11-7 and 11-8 in the final. Lydia McAllister win the consolation event beating Sarah Thompson 11-4, 12-10, and 11-7.
In the under 12 Boys event Ethan Duffy who missed the last Tournament won the under 12 Boys final in storming fashion beating Matthew Maguire 11-2, 11-3, and 11-8. James Hadden won the under 12 boys consolation beating Peter Warrick 9-11, 11-9, and 11-8.
In the under 14 Girls event Emma Thompson beat Caron Jones in a 5 setter finall 11-8, 9-11, 9-11, 11-4 and 11-7.Rebecca Wilson won the consolation final beating Lydia McAllister.
The under 14 Boys event Dillon Duffy beat Ryan Drayne in the first semi and his brother Ethan beat Aaron O`Neill in the second semi. In the final Dillon was too strong on the night for Ethan beating him in 3 straight sets 11-8, 11-9 and 11-9 Andrew Finlay beat Aaron Smith in the consolation final.
In the under 17 Open event Aaron O`Neill beat Ryan Drayne in the first semi. In the second semi it was the Duffy brothers facing each other again. Dillon completed a double over his brother but this time Ethan pushed him to 4 sets. 11-6, 9-11, 11-5 and 11-6. In the final it was a 5 setter between Aaron and Dillon. After going 2 sets down Aaron made a comeback and took the next 2 sets. Dillon won the final set 11-9. Amber Harrison beat Emma Thompson in the consolation final.
On Monday night it was the seniors playing in the A singles, the mixed and open events. John Walker beat Dale Hanna in the A singles final 11-5, 3-11, 11-8 and 11-5. William Armstrong won the consolation event.
In the mixed event Cyril Fannan Monaghan club beat Stevie Turkington Brooklands, 4-11, 11-7, 18-16 and 11-6 in the first semi. Richard Black beat team mate Gillian Richardson in the second semi in 3 straight sets. In the final Cyril was too strong for Richard beating him 11-9, 11-7 and 11-9.
A very strong line up in the open semis, Mark McAllister beat David Erskine 11-6, 11-5, and 11-8 in the first semi. Ivan Jeffers beat Randolph Loney in the second semi. Randolph just wouldn't give in and took Ivan to 5 sets. 11-9, 11-13, 11-7, 8-11 and 11-8. Another great match in the final between Mark and Ivan the first set went to Ivan 11-2. Mark immediately hit back to win the 2nd set 11-4. After that it was 11-9 to Ivan and 11-9 to Mark. In a see-saw final set Ivan won it 11-9
