Hughes’ Heart set on Scottish move

Wednesday, 11 January 2017

COOKSTOWN legend Aaron Hughes is set to get his first taste of Scottish football after his contract with Indian Super League side Kerala Blasters expired.

The former Northern ireland captain, who has over 100 caps for his country, is set to become Heart of Midlothian's new head coach, Ian Cathro's first signing this January.

The 37-year-old is expected to move to Edinburgh on an initial six-month deal.

Hughes has played for Newcastle, Aston Villa and Fulham during a 20-year professional career.

He has won 104 caps for his country and was part of Michael O'Neill's squad at Euro 2016 last summer.

Hughes may not be the only Mid-Ulster man on the way to Hearts with the club also understood to be interested in Aberdeen wideman, Niall McGinn, whose contract expires in the summer.
