Swifts move in transfer market

Wednesday, 24 May 2017

DUNGANNON Swifts have got their transfer business for the summer up and running with two additions and one departure.

In have come Ballinamallard United duo Liam McMenamin and Ryan Mayse, while Andrew Burns has left the club at his request after four years at Stangmore Park.

Mayse, 23, is a technically adept winger who hit double figures this past season for the Mallards after a spell with Strathroy Harps, having come up through the ranks at the Swifts' youth team, Dungannon United Youth.

And he has expressed his delight at returning to the club he played for as a boy.

“From the minute I left I've always wanted to get back here.

“I loved every minute whilst I was here the first time, but I moved to Strathroy Harps to get more game time in adult football and mature, and to be honest it has made me the player that I am today.

“When word came that Rodney was interested in taking me back I didn't have to think twice."

McMenamin is a 28-year-old full back who can also play in the heart of the defence or in midfield and will be a like for like replacement for Burns.

Both players have joined the club on two year contracts.

Speaking about the departure of Burns, manager Rodney McAree said: "Andrew was a pleasure to work with and has decided that he needs a new challenge at this point in his career.

“We are sad to see him go but I do wish him success at whatever club he moves to."

Meanwhile, young full back Caolin Coyle has put pen to paper on his first professional contract with the club.
