DUNGANNON'S World Rally Championship star Kris Meeke suffered yet another retirement at the weekend.

A broken suspension forced him out of Rally Portugal for his fifth retirement in six rounds.

It was a far cry from his performance at the same event last year when he was the victor, and he started well, leading the standings after the first loop of gravel stages.

However, it was all downhill from there.

A slow puncture on the sixth stage saw him drop back to fifth place, albeit just six seconds off the lead and little more than a second behind his Citroen team-mate Craig Breen.

Stage seven saw his C3 stopped with another puncture, but the problem proved to be more serious.

Kris got the wheel changed and attempted to persist, but the rear suspension was damaged and he was forced to stop.

The only round Kris has completed this year was in Mexico, when he stormed to victory.
