St Pat's hit by goal frenzy in Nagle Cup final thumbnailCian Ferguson rises for the ball for St Patrick's College in the Nagle Cup final at Garvaghey.

ST PATRICK'S College Dungannon were simply no match for Sacred Heart College Omagh who coasted to a comprehensive 8-11 to 1-9 win in the Danske Bank Nagle Cup final at a sun-kissed Garvaghey on Thursday afternoon.

St Patrick's College Dungannon...1-9
Sacred Heart College Omagh...8-11

The old adage of 'goals win games' was certainly true as St Patrick's were blitzed by their Omagh counterparts for five majors to put the game beyond doubt by the halftime, despite each team enjoying an even share of possession.

Sacred Heart's eye for goal continued in the second period as they widened the gap to close the game out by a more than comfortable margin.

A one-sided game didn't look to be on the cards as points from SP McKernan and Cian Ferguson had Dungannon two up in as many minutes. Omagh soon took a grip of the game though with Sean McDonagh, Ryan Meenan and Caelan Kerr all hitting the net in the space of five minutes. McDonagh added a point then got his second goal from the penalty spot when Ciaran Campbell picked the ball off the ground in the box. Tiarnan Mayse got his first point of the afternoon from a free.

Dungannon began to enjoy a lot of the ball at the other end, and despite a fine solo goal from Ferguson, they just couldn't match Omagh, who strengthened their lead with points from Mayse and another goal from Meenan. Ferguson and McKernan points were followed up by a McDonagh score as Omagh went in at the break 5-5 to 1-5 up.

Omagh went on to dominate the second period, with Shay and Jude Gallagher, Shane Colton and Mayse all notching points, with the only reply coming from Dungannon talisman Ferguson. Jude Gallagher struck for goal number six before Tadg Cunningham came off the bench to get in on the act as Omagh moved out of sight.

The accurate Ferguson continued to pop over the frees for St Patrick's, but it was left for McDonagh to complete his hat trick of goals and Cunningham to fire over a point to round off the facile win and spark jubilant scenes for Sacred Heart College.
