Wednesday, 21 June 2017

SPIRES Cycling Club has reached an important milestone, enrolling its 100th member - John Hamilton.

Since the club's formation in 2009 with a mere handful of members Spires has grown steadily This growth reflects the massive uptake in cycling across the country. With people keen to enjoy the outdoor life and increasingly aware of the benefit of low impact exercise in a sociable setting - cycling with Spires ticks all the boxes.

The club caters for both those interested in leisure cycling for fitness and those eager to progress to the racing scene.

The growth in Spires's membership had enabled different groups of leisure cyclists of similar ability to cycle together at their preferred speed.

Consequently the club's three weekly outings have become better attended with members confident they will find a suitable group to join.

Increased membership has also allowed the racing enthusiasts to concentrate more on training orientated cycling, with speed work and group skills.

This variety of ability levels facilitates a stepped progression from beginner, to racing cyclist over a period of time.

Everyone is welcome to come along and give club cycling a go, you will see the benefits immediately. Spires Cycling Club meets at the Rainey Old Boys car park at 8.30am on Saturday and Sunday mornings and at 6.30pm on Wednesday nights during the summer months.
