KILLYMOON Rangers made a return to the Street League after an absence of almost 50 years, and their first match in group 1 was a local derby with Cookstown RBL

RBL started the match the brighter of the two sides and shot wide in the opening minutes,

Killymoon responded from a long kick out, Dicky Donaghy crossed and the shot was a simple catch for Neill Young in the RBL goal.

On 10 minutes, Killymoon forced a corner, which was not converted. An RBL free-kick soon followed, causing problems in the Killymoon defence, but goalkeeper Kyle Dobson safely gathered the ball at the second attempt.

Stuart Donaghy then had a snap shot saved following a Richard Donaghy flick-on.

There then followed a spell of pressure from RBL which the Killymoon backline of Allen, Kirk, O'Neill and Sloan dealt with comfortably.

Killymoon then took the initiative and broke forward, Owen Coyle ran past a few Leguon defenders, before taking shot from 30 yards, but his shot went agonisingly wide.

Killymoon were forced to reshuffle the pack after 20 minutes, due to an injury to centre-half Jamie O'Neill.

After this the game ebbed and flowed with both sides having chances, but neither were converted for either side.

On 25 minutes, RBL took the lead after a mistake in the Killymoon defence, which was capitalised on by Benny Gray.

He gave 'keeper Kyle Dobson in the Killymoon goal no chance from five yards out. Within two minutes Killymoon were back on level terms, a long throw in from Matthew Sloan was headed out to the edge of the box by the RBL defence, and Stuart Donaghy was on hand to score with a crisp volley.

End-to-end action followed at that stage as Dicky Donaghy had a shot saved by Neil Young and an RBL chance was cleared by William Frizelle who had got back.

Both teams continued to create chances in the remaining minutes of the half, with both 'keepers dealing with all that came their way.

In the second half, Killymoon made some changes, and in the early exchanges midfielder David Frizelle had a low hard shot fly just wide after a corner kick from Kieran Thompson.

Later in the half, RBL centre half Rio Donaldson was on hand with a good tackle to clear a dangerous Killymoon attack.

On 65 minutes Kyle Dobson was quick off his line to foil a dangerous RBL attack. Robbie Allen then had a corner headed of the line, and Paul McVey had a shot saved by the RBL goalkeeper.

On 69 minutes Killymoon took the lead after a defender under pressure from a delightful Dylan Coyle cross, misjudged his clearance and the ball ended up in the net. On 73 minutes it was 3-1.

Christopher McNicholl beat his man to score with a low shot into the far corner.

RBL then came back at Killymoon, and had a corner cleared, with Kyle Dobson making a routine save to keep the scoreline intact.

New signing Dicky Donaghy then ran from the halfway line and had a shot saved at close range.

Two minutes from time, Christopher McNicholl doubled his tally, after skilfully beating his man in the box, and firing the ball into the right hand corner of the net.

There was a good crowd at the game, and a few old faces from years gone by, Bert Spiers, Alistair Hamilton, Raymond Ferguson, Jim McGarvey, Tommy McKelvey, Iain Donaghy, John Shannon, Nigel Talbot, Harry Patterson, Malcolm McConkey - plus George Lennox, Eddie Davis and Alistair Donaldson in the opposition dug out.

The next game for Killymoon Rangers is on Saturday, 22nd July, away to Dungannon Tigers at Drumcoo - 2.30pm Kickoff.
