Triathlon festival a huge success

Wednesday, 9 August 2017

TRI Limits Triathlon Club hosted the Tri Tyrone Triathlon Festival on Friday 28th and Saturday 29th July at Eskragh Lough, Dungannon.

The club were overwhelmed by the demand for the event; and the turnout from athletes from all over Ireland.

The event was very successful on a weekend of mixed weather.

There were four races of different distances; starting with the Tri-A-Tri race on Friday night.

Local athlete Sheena O'Neill was first home and overall winner of the Ti-A-Tri race on Friday night; and went on to complete the Olympic distance event as well on Saturday with another impressive perfor mance.

David Sleith was the first male finisher.

The sprint on Friday night was dominated by Tuna Triathlon Club; taking the first three places; headed impressively by Philip Castles; finishing only a few seconds over the hour mark.

Sally McHugh put in a very impressive performance to be 1st Female home and 4th overall.

Omagh TC Member and local legend Shane McGale came home sixth, and stayed around after the race to draw the winner of a 500 mattress which he had donated from McGale's Furniture Shop, Omagh.

On Saturday, The Olympic Distance race was won with an impressive performance by Wayne Morrow; followed by Conor Maguire and Luke Osborne.

First Female was Emma Magee; followed by Sinead McCann and Cathy Cunningham from Omagh TC who very sportingly finished across the line together.

The Middle Distance Race which also took place on Saturday, was dominated by Irish Ironman Record Holder Bryan McCrystal who finished in a brilliant time of 04:02:45; with an absolute beast of a bike leg, which had our pacer quad struggling to keep ahead; he was followed in by Mark Millar; and Paul McAllister; who held on for 3rd from Oliver Harkin who was chasing hard on the run leg.

There was a great battle for the Female Podium spots; Louise Morg an finishing strong to grab 1st; followed by Claire Murphy and Meabh Peavoy. There was only 28 seconds between them after almost five and a half hours of racing.

Tri Limits Triathlon Club would like to thank everyone involved with organizing and marshaling the race and the competitors and spectators for making it such a great day.
