Reds ready to renew old rivalries

COOKSTOWN Hockey Club face a busy week as they take on two of their oldest Ulster rivals in the cup and league.

First up is Instonians at Shawsbridge on Wednesday in the first round of the Irish Senior Cup.

Quarter-finalists last season, the Reds will be hoping to equal or better that performance as they go into this season's knockout tournament.

Then, on Saturday, it is a trip to Belfast to take on Annadale in match four of the EY Hockey League.

"The match against Dale is huge - both sides will know that," said Cookstown captain, Jon Ames. "A win will propel the victor up to mid-table and will give them the bragging rights and a good bit of confidence going forward.

"Much like last season in the Ulster Premier, it has the makings of a very tight and edgy affair. The margins between us have always been pretty fine and that means the pressure will be on.

"I'm delighted that we will have a tough match against Inst on Wednesday, and we will be targeting a win in that.

"The team really is up for a good run in the Irish Senior Cup this season. I know that if we can get that victory it will inspire more good things from this team and we will keep growing and improving into the season."
