Mid-Ulster Zone men coast through

Wednesday, 25 October 2017

MID-ULSTER men moved into the next round of this season's inter zone competition with an expected win over a weak East Antrim.

In a game where one team is expected to progress easily it is difficult to evaluate the performances.

The game was, as expected, a rather dull affair which rarely gave the disappointed crowd anything to cheer about.

The result was never in doubt at any stage but with the next game away to last season's winners Oriel, the men will have to up their game against a team who will take their chances.

Having said that it is clear that Oriel have a psychological problem when they meet Mid-Ulster and having succumbed to the pressure in the second final between them and Mid-Ulster.

It is likely that the winner of this game will go on to take the trophy.

In the first half D McElroy, J McKay, D Grimes and S Davidson had a 9-5 win.

On mat two M Wilson, T Turkington, D McAllister and G Smith had a 12-2 win picking up six shots and in the last two ends.

On mat three, M Cunningham, D McStravock, G Merron and A Evans had a 13-5 win.

With a half time lead of 22 shots, the game was virtually over even though East Antrim had stronger second half rinks.

On mat one, K McCulloch, L McHugh, A Ward and C Hogg had a 13-7 win, while on mat two, C McHugh, G Wilson, A Bradley and W Lennox had a 13-11 win, dropping five on the last end.

And on mat three, A Paul, S Quinn, M Trimby and D Davidson had a narrow 9-7 win to secure the victory.
