Allen takes Class win at Kirkistown

Wednesday, 31 January 2018

COOKSTOWN  rally driver Philip Allen, son of the late Northern Ireland champion Glenn Allen, was in winning form once again at Kirkistown at the weekend.

Taking part in the New Year Stages Rally, organised and promoted by the Ulster Automobile Club Ltd, 25-year-old Allen, accompanied by Martin Connelly, took first place in Class 10 in their Ford Fiesta R5.

The duo also finished third overall, just .4 of a second behind second-placed Mark Massey and Nial Burns in a Subaru Impreza WRC in the popular Kirkistown event, which is a round of the Ulster Automobile 2018 Club Championship.

The Glenn Allen Accident Repair Centre driver almost pipped Massey and co for runner-up spot. Allen and Connelly were four seconds adrift going into the last stage and shaved over three seconds off Massey's lead in a blistering two-lap drive.

The overall winner was Derek McGarrity and Paddy Robinson in a Subaru Impreza WRC, who drove superbly throughout the day.

Nevertheless it was a most impressive outing for the Cookstown driver and another victory for Allen.

Last year Philip roared to victory in his first outing in a Mini John Cooper Works WRC at the May Day Stages Rally at St Angelo, Enniskillen.

Philip's victory on the May Day Stages last year coincided with his dad's birthday.

Philip's many friends and supporters and proud grandmother, Vera Allen, extend congratulations to Philip  on another winning podium at Kirkistown.
