Legion gain point

RBL Manager Chris Leacock got the response he wanted from his players last Saturday against a great footballing side in Sofia Farmer who sit fourth in the Ballymena Intermediate Premier League.

Sofia Farmer...1
Cookstown RBL...1

Sofia started this match at a ferocious pace and found themselves in front inside five minutes, their winger got in behind the RBL full-back and squared the ball to the unmarked striker who made no mistake with his shot flying into the top corner of the net.

This set back seemed to spark the Legion men into action with chances falling to James McPartland, Johnny Taylor and Ryan Moore but all found the home 'keeper on top form to keep the farmers in front.

The second half was not a minute old when David Lee found himself one-on-one with the home 'keeper but his effort was well saved.

With time running down the RBL threw caution to the wind and got their just rewards, club captain Gary Donaldson rose highest from a corner kick, expertly delivered by Steven Ramsay, to head ball into the top corner of the net to level the match.

The last 10 minutes of this match was a credit to both teams who never settled for the draw.

A minute later midfield maestro Lee Hunter played in David Lee with the best chance of the match but his effort cannoned of the post to leave the match all square with a hard earned point for each team.

This Saturday, the Legion have a home fixture at Beechway against Brantwood F.C. with a 2pm kick off.

Club Captain and defensive stalwart Gary Donaldson was the RBL Man Of The Match sponsored by Natalie McPartland of Bargain Tools Portrsuh.

RBL team: Kyle Nelson, Adam Glasgow, Alex Lees, Aaron Reid, Gary Donaldson, Lee Hunter, Ryan Moore, James McPartland, Johnny Taylor, Steven Ramsay, David Lee, Nick Jackson, Matt Rainey.
