RSD'S hopes of a place in the semi-final of the Subsidiary Shield came to a halt at Down High School on Saturday morning.

The hosts, the Shield holders, kicked an early penalty and followed it up with a converted try to lead 10 - 0 after 10 minutes.

Luke McMullan narrowed the deficit for the visitors with a penalty and RSD had their best spell of the half with several runs that brought them to within metres of the Down HS line.

In the latter part of the first half RSD conceded two converted tries and on the stroke of half time, a penalty from long range which crossed via both post and crossbar.

RSD produced a much better second half as they got their off loading game going and as the match drew to a close they were rewarded with a try by a Josh Fegan following several drives towards the Down HS line, leaving the final score 8 - 27.
