Cookstown duo 'lift' titles thumbnailConor Mallon competition host Shane Brodie and Randall Crooks are pictured after their success at the Irish Single Lift Championships in Limerick, Ireland.

THE 2018 Irish single lift championships were held recently in Limerick and there was great success for two local men.

Conor Mallon and Randall Crooks made their training pay as they showed their strength and determination to be crowned Irish Champions in their class.

The members of Mackzimise Powerlifting Club in Cookstown made the long trip down and didn't disappoint. First up was Moneymore man Conor Mallon.

Conor was competing in the Junior U23 100kgs bodyweight class. This was Conor's debut competition but despite the added pressure the big man pressed 145kgs (23 stone) to claim first place and become Irish Bench Press champion for 2018.

Last up for the team in the benchpress was 2015 World Champion Randall Crooks.

The strength legend was competing in the Master 100kgs class in what was his first bench press competition in over two years.

The Cookstown man was hindered with a shoulder injury but showed all his battling qualities with a 170kgs bench press to also claim first place and become Irish Bench Press Champion 2018.

Randall has now won an incredible 38 titles around the world and still holds British records in both bench press and deadlift.

He has won titles across five weight divisions in a 20-year career.
