GLASGOW Celtic have agreed a deal with Dungannon Swifts to sign the highly rated young goalkeeper, Liam Hughes.

Hughes, 16, has already played for the Swifts' first team in the league and will now join the Scottish side's academy set up.

He had previously played for Portadown FC and had shone during an appearance against the Swifts in the final league game of last season at Stangmore Park.

A statement from the club's academy read: "Celtic FC are delighted to welcome goalkeeper Liam Hughes on his recent signing from Dungannon Swifts.

"At 16 Liam has already played in Dungannon's first team and represented Northern Ireland at Under 17 level, a great addition to our squad."

After the news was announced, Dungannon Swifts said "Congratulations Liam from all at Dungannon Swifts Football Club. We wish you every success for the future.

"What a fantastic and mature boy who will do very well in the game."
