AFTER a deserved 3-2 victory over league champions Killymoon with a double from Matiko and an own goal, the Colts faced North End in their final fixture of the Ballymena Provincial Intermediate League Junior 2.

With the pressure of promotion gone, the Colts played with a renewed sense of freedom against their Ballymena counterparts.

On five minutes, O'Neill struck the woodwork inside the box. Early pressure from the Whites resulted in Matiko powering home a thundering header after Kelly's superb cross from the left.

A great through ball from O'Neill on 15 minutes then saw Arrell hit his first of the game and double the Colts lead.

Kilpatrick and McElhatton controlled the centre of the park with the back five of Donaghy, Brown, Miller, Thornton and Wilson all working well to control North End's energetic front three.

Matiko saw a strong shot well saved on 38 minutes with an O'Neill effort just going wide on half time.

Another fantastic ball from O'Neill was met by Arrell who struck home with his left foot on 47 minutes to make it 3-0.

A great cross from Kelly on the left was sliced homeward into the North End net by their own full back on 50 minutes to increase their advantage to four goals.

Robb and Gabrysiak both came on for the Colts before a North End penalty kept the game alive on 53 minutes before Arrell found the net again for his hat trick two minutes later.

A handball from Cookstown in their own box gave Northend their second goal of the game on the hour mark, once more from the penalty spot.

Gabrysiak spurned a great chance with a header which flew wide on 65 minutes before poacher Arrell got the final touch on the line after a shot through a melee of players from O'Neill to make it 6-2.

Devlin replaced Arrell up front as CYFC made their final substitution and Matiko then spurned two great headed opportunities on 70 and 75 minutes.

In the dying minutes, North End, to their credit, scored a third as the game finished 6-3.

A big thank you to the 50 something players that played for the Colts this season from coaches Noel, the two Andys, Rodney and Arnie, with a tinge of disappointment in finishing third just outside the promotion places.

Thanks to everyone for their support this season as we all take a well earned break and look to get ready for 2018/19.

Development Centre

Friday night was the final night of the Development Centre and the boots and whistles are now hung up for this season.

A club spokesman said: "We would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your continued support and of course our registration volunteers and coaches who all volunteer their free time week after week in all weathers and who make it possible for us to provide this service to our local community.

"Enjoy your break everyone, players and coaches, and we will see you all next season."
