Dungannon make history to reach Intermediate Cup quarters for first time

DUNGANNON have progressed to the quarter finals of the Intermediate Cup with victory over Hilden, last year's runners-up.
On rink one, J Haydock was making his first appearance of the season alongside I Hobson, J Shaw and B Cardwell, playing R Gourley's four.
After seven ends, the Dungannon men were leading 8-7 and they extended their lead to 15-11 after 14 ends.
Dungannon continued to control the game and were 21-15 winners after the 21 ends.
I Scott, B Wilkinson, A Hardy and K Wright, on rink two for Dungannon, played H McMullen's four and afterseven ends, the Hilden rink were in the lead at 7-4.
However, Dungannon fought back well to lead 11-10 after 14 ends and they continued to push on, eventually winning 17-12.
I Scott was leading very well, playing bowls any skip would be happy with, and A Hardy shone at third.
On rink three, C Brown, J O'Neill, D Wright and D Scott were playing the ex-Dungannon pairing of K Morrison, A Morrison, as well as A Carlisle, E Marsden.
The first seven ends saw Dungannon get off to a great start, leading 16-3 and they kept it up after 14 ends, leading 21-8, before winning out overall at 29-17 after a great rink performance.
Rink four consisted of G Fletcher, N Burrows, H Dunbar and A Rafferty, who played the rink skipped by C Montgomery.
Seven ends in, Dungannon were leading by two at 9-7, but after 14 ends Hilden had levelled it up at 12-12 and they pushed on to win 18-17.
It's the first time in the club's history that Dungannon have got to the quarter final stage of the Intermediate Cup, where they will travel to Dungiven on 28 July.
Next up for the Senior team is a trip to play Banbridge (B) on Tuesday night, while on Saturday they are at home to Londonderry Park.
On Saturday night the bonus ball was No 9, won by Ida Eldon.
Mid-Ulster League

THE Mid-Ulster team travelled to play Portadown on Thursday night past.
On rink two, C Lyden, A Rankin, D Wright and B Cardwell played S Heasley's rink and Portadown won 21-12.
Rink four consisted of T Swann, N Burrows, J O'Neill and J Shaw, who played the rink skipped by E Bonnes.
Nine ends in, Dungannon were leading 7-5 and they extended the lead over the next nine ends to emerge as 16-8 winners.
Rink six saw F Kelly, I Scott, G Whelan and J Millar play the rink of N Quinn.
Dungannon led 8-4 at the midway point and extended their lead over the next nine ends to win 19-12.
Dungannon came away with five points on an overall scoreline of 47-43
Next up for the Mid-Ulster team is a trip to Lurgan in the second leg of the cup. Lurgan lead by one.

ON TUESDAY night past Dungannon played Letterkenny at Drumcoo Green.
On rink two, C Brown, W McCurdy, G Whelan and J Millar played ex-Cookstown man D McCracken and it was a night the Dungannon rink would like to forget, losing 25-3.
F Kelly, J Haydock, D Wright and A Rafferty on rink three played W McGeehan's rink. Aiden's rink won 14-13 in a close contest.
On rink four, G Fletcher, A Rankin, H Dunbar and T Stinson played D O'Kane's rink, with the Dungannon rink winning 19-6.
Rink five consisted of C Lyden, W Wilkinson, D Hughes and A Hardy, who played J Hegarty rink, with Letterkenny clear winners on a score of 21-4.
