Popular mountain biking event makes return to Davagh Fores

Wednesday, 27 June 2018

MOUNTAIN bikers across Northern Ireland are looking forward to one of the highlights in the calendar year as the Davagh Enduro and Youth Enduro returns to Davagh Forest.
Taking place on the weekend of 31st June and 1st July, it brings with it a major influx of mountain bikers and spectators to the area.
The two day event is in its sixth year and takes place at the popular mountain bike trails located at Davagh Forest. These trails, which were built in 2013, consist of a 16km exhilarating red trail, 7.5km of flowing blue trail, a gentle 3km green trail, a skills park and a pump track and are managed and maintained by Mid-Ulster Council.
Event organiser Michael Regan explained why he believed the Davagh Enduro was so popular:
“There's something to enjoy for everybody. It's a fairly laid back day on the bike, so participants are able to take their time getting from stage to stage. The spectators are right there amongst the action and the atmosphere is always incredible.
“We're also one of the few Enduros in Northern Ireland with a youth category, and everyone loves to see the future riders showing off their skills."
Mountain bikers will make the trip from all parts of Ireland, Great Britain and even from America ahead of the weekend. Many taking part turn the trip into a weekend away, using the camping facilities at The Shepherd's Rest, as well as local accommodation providers, restaurants and cafes who have repeatedly benefited from this influx of visitors.
Ethan Loughrey from MountainBikeNI added, "The Davagh Enduro is as much a festival as it is a competition. As well as providing a great spectacle, it showcases the brilliant facilities available for free at Davagh Forest, and results in a real boost for local businesses."
